We have got many invitations for Fall wedding, party celebration and today our Fashion Channel is going to share an interesting way to make a fashionable handbag out of fabric scraps and a semi or thin cardboard. This is an easy no sew craft with least supplies we have in our craft room. Since this handbag is for party celebration, we make it a bit clutch style with handles and clips at both sides of opening. Small sized for hand carry and put credit cards as well as cosmetics inside for dressing.
Now let’s get all the supplies: floral fabric, semi or thin cardboard, glue (Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Permanent Fabric Adhesive works great on this), tape, stationery knife, 2 sets of Magnetic Button Clasp Snaps.
Cut the cardboard into 40 * 70 cm, and the lining fabric 44 * 74 cm. You can change the size to your personal need, rectangle handbag is preferred, but keep in mind that the fabric must be 1cm-2cm longer than the cardboard for edging.
Now wrap and glue the fabric allowance over inside the cardboard with fabric glue (or hot glue gun).
Now for the final fabric cover, add Magnetic Button Clasp Snaps at both sides of the opening.
Fold the cardboard slightly in half and fix the shape with tape at both ends.
Cut the both sides at around 25cm, adjust the half circle by drawing the outside of the bag on the paper, cut out the shape, and glue the lining and fabric over the cardboard accordingly.
Glue the fabric on the other side and iron it flat to make it flat.
Glue to the clutch side cover and fix with tape until the adhesive has dried.
To make it better, glue another layer inner lining inside the handbag and make this boutique looking. The cardboard can be easily fold to make the bag distorted, so we can use plastic sheet such as plastic canvas as a better alternative. Wish you enjoy your fun in the coming party season, too.
